About PhD on Track

PhD on Track is a national web resource for PhD candidates and early career researchers in Norway. The website aims to enable beginning researchers from all academic fields to easily access information on different aspects of the process towards a PhD degree. Main topics are the research process, communicating results, and good research practices.

Review and Write

As a PhD candidate, you are expected to place your work in the context of current research. The foundation of any research project is a thorough overview of existing literature relevant to your research. By continuously evaluating, selecting and reviewing literature throughout the writing process, you situate yourself within a research field, and take part in its ongoing dialogue.

History

PhD on Track was launched on 23 May 2013. The selection of topics was based on findings from a study of PhD candidates’ interaction with information in research processes. PhD on Track and the study were originally the products of a joint project involving the libraries of Oslo, Bergen and Aalborg universities, NHH and the Bergen University College. The project received development funding from the National Library of Norway.

In 2016 the NTNU University Library and the library of UiT The Arctic University of Norway joined the project, while the library of Aalborg University left. To strengthen the editorial board as well as to cover additional educational aspects, the Oslo Metropolitan University Library joined the project in 2024.

PhD on Track is now a Norwegian site that aims to be a national resource for PhD candidates. The site is run and further developed by the editors and funded by the six participating institutions.

The university and college libraries' network for PhD support

PhD on Track hosts the Norwegian website of the university and college libraries' network for PhD support. The network aims to be an arena for discussing and reflecting on teaching practices and training offered to PhD candidates in academic libraries in Norway.

The network arranges a seminar each year. Programmes and papers from the seminars are archived on the site. Other upcoming events of interest for participants in the network will also be listed on the site.
